Does it need internet?
No. Dioptra runs on your own Windows PC and works fully offline. Internet is only needed if you want us to help remotely.
Where is my data?
On your PC, in one file that is backed up automatically four times a day. You can copy it to a USB stick or cloud folder. It is your property, and you can take it with you at any time.
Can I bring in my existing customers and items?
Items yes, from an Excel sheet or an export from your current system. Customer records build up naturally from the first job order. Opening balances for suppliers and stock are entered on setup day.
Is the VAT handling right for opticals?
Yes. Prescription lenses and powered contact lenses are zero-rated, frames and sunglasses carry 5%, and both can sit on the same invoice. The VAT return report gives you the figures for the FTA return.
What hardware do I need?
Any Windows 10 or 11 PC, an A4 or A5 printer for job orders and invoices, and optionally a label printer for barcode labels. A barcode scanner is supported but not required.
What if I stop paying?
Dioptra keeps opening in read-only mode, so your history is never held hostage. New entries resume when the licence is renewed.
